The Sonic booms from the impact took over 2 minutes to reach the ground, but were extremely loud.

The meteorite was travelling faster than the speed of sound, at over 20,000 miles per hour. The sonic boom it made in the atmosphere hit the ground and the shock wave shattered windows, causing close to 1000 injuries. Emergency broadcasts can be heard in some of the footage.

Nature Magazine says that the blast was even more powerful than North Korea’s recent nuclear test. The meteor was believed to be the largest rock to strike the planet since 1908, and is estimated to have been between 10-50 tons in mass.
